Pay ZBC licenses: court rules
Zimbabwe’s constitutional court has today ruled that all citizens who own any gadgets capable of receiving radio and television signals must pay ZBC (Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation) licence fees. In the past, citizens have challenged the constitutionality of ZBC’s licence fee demands from holders of radio and television sets.
According to a report in the Herald, the court dismissed two applications against ZBC on the grounds that it was clear the law obligated citizens to pay fees as long as they are in possession of TV and radio receivers.
What citizens have said in the past
Citizens have in the past complained that they could not get a quality signal from ZBC. This they claim has forced them to forfeit payment of ZBC licenses. Others have blamed failure to pay on poor programming. Motorists have also had fall outs with the parastatal over licensing.
